☀️Summer☀️

Hello All You Wonderful People๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿผ
๐ŸŒฑProgress in the grow room ๐ŸŒฟ
๐Ÿ’šOur little baby plants are growing up๐Ÿฅ—
It amazes me how fast plants grow in a hydroponic setting.
Being able to control the environmental conditions such as light, temperature, nutrient availability, and humidity sure make up for an easy summer of growing!
I don’t have to pull weeds out around the plants or combat pests in the
summer elements❌☀️๐Ÿ›๐Ÿฆ—๐Ÿฟ๐Ÿ‡๐ŸŒง❌ and that’s a huge plus!
Work smarter...not harder๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿผ‍๐ŸŒพ
๐Ÿฅ—Before long it will be time to harvest a couple different varieties of basils and cilantro for

Hello,
Jennifer here. Summer is finally here! Rachel will be away from the grow room during the summer break for an internship in Kansas.( Congrats Rach๐Ÿ˜ƒ) I’ll be here maintaining the system and doing the harvest with some help from Nicole and Chef Q. I’m currently breaking down the system and doing some cleaning before I plant basil and cilantro for Blair-Shannon dining hall๐ŸŒฑ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿฅ— It’s so empty in here and can’t wait to get the plant babies in the towers!

HARVEST DAY!

Good afternoon everyone,

Happy Monday! Hope everyone is having a wonderful day...and enjoying this beautiful weather!

Personally, I am having a great Monday because I got to harvest this morning!! My hands (and the Kentwood kitchen) smell like herbs, and it’s awesome! I am very proud of our totals this time around, and I wanted to share them with you. ๐ŸŒฑ

Basil ... 4.25 pounds
Cilantro ... 4.13 pounds
Dill ... 2.25 pounds
Parsley ... 2.15 pounds
Chervil ... 2.3 pounds
Shisho ... 0.5 pounds

That’s a total of 15.5 pounds of produce delivered to dining halls and the PSU today!!!

Just to give an idea of how much that really is, if you were to put that in your cart at the grocery store it would cost you around $500!

WOW.

Add that to the fact that they’re 10 times fresher and prettier than what you can buy at a store, and it’s absolutely incredible.

Have a wonderful week!

Out & About On Campus

Hey y’all!

If you were walking to class through Bearfest Village yesterday, I hope you stopped to check out the Sustainability Showcase put on by the College of Agriclture! The Green Team wanted to be a part of this event, so we had one of our grow towers on display for students to check out. There was a lot of interest, and we are excited about pushing for ever-increasing sustainability on our campus.
Go bears! ๐Ÿป

There are events continuing this week for the Public Affairs Conference, so we encourage you to attend some of the sessions and learn something new about being sustainable!

Fri-Yay is Harvest Day!

Good afternoon everyone,

I hope you are enjoying this spring weather as much as I am! Today I had the privilege of delivering the produce from the first major harvest of the semester, and it was a beautiful thing to see ๐Ÿ’š ๐ŸŒฑ

The oils from all of the herbs have my hands smelling like dill, basil, cilantro, & happiness. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

Our produce totals for this week were the following:
Kale (.5 pounds)
Dill (.85 pounds)
Basil (.5 pounds)
Cilantro (.5 pounds)
Chervil (.5 pounds)
Parsley (.25 pounds)

The produce was harvested this afternoon, and delivered within 30 minutes to both the Blair-Shannon and Garst dining halls... Talk about fresh!

Have a wonderful weekend everyone,
Rachel ๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿผ‍๐ŸŒพ
